An enormous federal lawsuit concerning the effects of social media on adolescents came to a close when Meta Platforms settled for $18 billion with forty-eight state attorneys general, marking the beginning of a new age in which internet companies will be held legally accountable for the content they provide on their platforms, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Meta has agreed to make significant changes to its Facebook and Instagram services as part of the settlement. One of these adjustments is the implementation of a default two-hour time limit on the apps for users under the age of 18.
