A group that once looked down on religion is now demanding that the United States worship a computer program as sacred, entrusting it to a worldwide watchdog agency so that Beijing can continue to construct unchecked.
Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, told Jesse Watters that the fear of artificial intelligence is not a random societal reaction. This is all part of a larger plot to demonize the sector that the US still has a leg up in, in the hopes that the public will capitulate.
Lonsdale gave an unfiltered assessment. The most vocal critics of Christianity, he claimed, had already abandoned it. A machine has been substituted in its place. “These individuals do not believe in a higher power. “They don’t believe in God, but they’ve made something that they think is God,” Watters stated, elaborating on Lonsdale’s argument. “This is their Messiah, and this is their end of the world.”
The goal of the fear campaign, according to Lonsdale, is to force Washington to pass regulations that benefit the largest laboratories and their political backers.
“There is a coordinated campaign to make the American people afraid,” stated he.
The theology of the panic, he contended, was inseparable from its cultural origins. According to him, San Francisco has mostly abandoned Christianity. When a culture abandons its long-held religious beliefs, it retains its want for a savior and a catastrophic end to the world. “If you give up religion, you want some kind of messianic complex, some kind of big thing to believe in,” explained Lonsdale. “These effective altruists – this is their Messiah, this is their end of the world, this is their obsession.”
“I think that’s a big part of what’s happening,” Lonsdale answered to Watters’s follow-up question, which was a logical one: “So these people don’t believe in God, they’re atheists, but they’ve built something they treat as God?” “AI is real,” he continued. America stands to benefit greatly from an impending industrial revolution—”amazing for America if we get it right.” Those who are opposed to it, he claimed, “hate America.”
No one from the doomer class ever wants that frame brought up. Rather than engineering safety. Not specific, limited regulations for the few harmful systems. A reformed religion with prophets, end-times prophecies, and a need for state-sanctioned doctrinal enforcement.
Already, Watters had sarcastically criticized the media narrative, describing it as “fantasies from a bunch of sci-fi freaks.”.
Off camera, Lonsdale has been repeating herself. Frontier labs were “gambling with our lives,” according to an Anthropic researcher who resigned; in response, Lonsdale wrote: “The world is going to be alright, guys.” Scaring people doesn’t help leaders face the enormous difficulties and obligations that lie ahead. It is under our control.
First, make everyone afraid, and then control them. Played out like that.

“It’s always the same apocalyptic crowd moving from one issue to the next,” says he. “Responsible guardrails are one thing, but handicapping American innovation while China speeds ahead with zero regulation isn’t sound policy – it’s just foolish.”
There will be no “pause and pray” summit in Beijing. The United States government has accused Chinese companies of “at an industrial scale” stealing American models.” A more subtle way of putting it is that the CCP desires the weapon, not a common moral compass, and that China’s top spy, Chen Yixin, has characterized AI as a danger to “political security, institutional security, and ideological security” and has urged for more Party control.
The slowdown has already been rejected by President Trump. “We’re leading China in AI,” he boasted. “Whoever wins AI, wins.” Additionally, he stated that many of the terrifying rumors being circulated “won’t happen,” and then penned that a “SICK conspiracy” involving artificial intelligence and data centers clearly benefits China.
When Representative Maxine Waters attempted to deflect Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Anthropic off of him as if their press tours were sacred text, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made a similar argument. It was Bessent’s opinion that they may quit whenever they wanted.
Yes, they could. The answer is no. They would prefer that Congress take care of it.
Bill Gates arrived this week with the political demand that underpins the theology. The co-founder of Microsoft is making a triumphant return to the spotlight, this time describing AI as a “alien intelligence” that no nation is prepared to handle. He adamantly believes that the solution lies in establishing a global body to oversee AI.

The following is an excerpt from Gates’s interview with Reuters: “I don’t think any government is nearly as deep on this as they have to be.” Afterward, “Governments are way behind on this one.” His hand went out for the screenplay. “There’s all sorts of movies where some aliens are coming, and magically the US and China and everybody comes together to solve the problem,” he commented. “AI is similar to this extraterrestrial intellect. It has arrived, and we had better act accordingly, just like in the movies.
He went even farther in a podcast: “It’s not the role of the industry to self-regulate or understand the whole-of-society impact that comes out of AI.” He described the change as “one of the most turbulent times in human history” in an essay he wrote in August and proposed a permanent cross-border monitor fashioned from nuclear inspections, aviation regulations, and ozone treaties. He wants to meet with Xi Jinping later this year and has already presented the idea to Trump’s team.
If the market is allowed to determine AI development, Gates said, “AI will be designed by and for the richest people in the world.” He assured everyone that the positive result “won’t happen by accident.” As a reminder that the man peddling fear is also purchasing pipeline, his organization later committed $1 billion over two years to disseminate AI in the fields of education, healthcare, and agriculture.
He recognizes the cacophony surrounding him. The president implored his party’s members to be “on top of” a technological trend that is “moving very fast in private hands.” During the next Trump-Xi meeting, Bernie Sanders once again branded a runaway system “humanity’s problem” and asked for a pause-and-ban deal. House Democrats quickly came to a consensus. The next An Inconvenient Truth is already getting set to hit Netflix.
That is in no way a safety procedure. An effort to transfer leadership of a technology now developed in American labs to other countries.
A worldwide pause conceived in Davos and imposed by inspectors meandering around American labs is not the same as stringent regulations for actual threats, such as bio-terror tools, open-weight models that hack at scale, and systems that shouldn’t be sent to the CCP. The nation is safeguarded by one. It lands on the other kneecap.
It all comes down to Lonsdale’s argument. Some people who no longer believe in God have created a machine that they speak about as sacred, and now they want Washington and a new globalist organization to bow down to them.
The winner takes home the AI prize. Some people see the code as a divine message, and they want the United States to lose intentionally.
