The U.S.A. Do Not Want Data Centers

Communities turning away data centers are shortsighted, Donald Trump says

“If communities all over the U.S.A. do not want Data Centers it is only because they want to end up being backward and poor,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“If they want to be successful and rich, let Data Reign, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place,” he added.

“The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them. “If we kill the Golden Goose you will have only yourselves to blame,” Trump posted.

“China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually they can’t believe it’s happening!” he added.

Data centers are critical, even if communities have pushed back against them, Trump said in an executive order in 2025.

“We will execute bold, large-scale industrial plans to catapult the United States further into the lead on critical manufacturing processes and technologies that are vital to national security, economic prosperity, and scientific leadership,” Trump wrote.

Such designs include artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and the infrastructure that powers them, including high-voltage transmission lines and other equipment. He continued, “It will be a priority of my Administration to ease Federal regulatory burdens to facilitate the rapid and efficient buildout of this infrastructure.

“Data center infrastructure is the backbone of the internet, cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) and is vital to our economy and national security. That infrastructure is built out and electrical demand associated to it rises,” Trump wrote in outlining the idea. “The American people should not be paying for it for the benefit of private enterprises.

“Companies should be paying the full cost of their energy and infrastructure, whatever it is,” Rump added.

“Companies will build, bring or buy the new generation resources and electricity they need to meet their new energy demands, and pay the full cost of those resources, whether built or bought from new or otherwise additive power plants,” Trump wrote.

These corporations will also add extra capacity that serves the broader public by expanding supply “where possible,” the new vow added.

Trump also urged firms to “invest in the local communities in which they build data centers. This includes employing from the local community and creating initiatives to develop relevant skills.”

A recent Gallup poll showed only 7 percent of respondents favoring data centers and 48 percent firmly opposing.

The biggest reason for opposition was the impact on resources, the poll showed.
