‘Second Wave’ National Shortages Bring Fuel Rationing to Moscow

Featured Story

Russian oil refineries and other industrial sites have been the primary targets of a recently expanded long-range drone operation launched from Ukraine; the campaign has now expanded to include online retail corporations and assaults on private sector enterprises.

There was widespread fear and casualties as a consequence of Tuesday’s one of the largest drone waves against Moscow of the war, with at least 600 drones fired against the capital region. Although it is unusual for the capital to impose new restrictions on fuel sales, some gas station networks in Russia have done just that, further aggravating the situation for the Russian people.

Gasoline sales at Moscow gas stations are now limited, according to staff and customer service lines from Gazprom Neft and Tatneft, respectively.

There have been reports of long queues at gas stations in and around the nation’s capital, as reported by Reuters:

There is a 40-liter (10-gallon) per customer limit on gasoline and diesel sold at Gazprom Neft’s automated filling stations in Moscow, according to an operator at the company’s customer hotline.
Gasoline purchases are limited to 60 liters per car at Gazprom Neft’s other filling stations, however diesel sales are unrestricted.
Gasoline sales at all of Rosneft’s filling stations in Russia are capped at 30 liters (about 8 gallons), but diesel sales are unrestricted, according to the country’s biggest oil company.

Companies in this industry have also been informing their clients that, because to increased demand, fill-up periods will be longer than usual.

Russian energy companies have speculated that “unscheduled refinery maintenance” is to blame for the setbacks, but this is just a code word for the destruction that has resulted from the relentless drone strikes that Ukraine has launched against its oil and refining facilities.

Ukrainian drones reportedly attacked an oil refinery and a residential building in the republic of Bashkortostan on Wednesday, according to regional chief Radiy Khabirov and other reports.

The incident highlights the extensive range of Ukrainian drones, as Bashkortostan is located north of Kazakhstan and rather far from the Ukraine border.

Once again, the pumps cause frustration…

Preliminary reports suggest that a unit that was undergoing repair was struck; nevertheless, we are still evaluating the damage. Khabirov told TASS that there is limited damage, as expected, due to falling debris damaging pipes. After a few days, I anticipate that everything will be fixed, the official said.

Late last week, Russian authorities started to publicly acknowledge a fuel shortage situation that had flared up again. The oil industry is “taking the necessary measures to increase deliveries to the most vulnerable regions,” according to a statement from the Kremlin, which was relatively unusual at the time. According to experts, Russia is currently experiencing its “second wave” of fuel shortages.
